Purpose

The Draughts Terminology Project is an initiative by Alexander Presman to bring under the leading of the World Draughts Federation (FMJD) the standardization and translation of draughts/checkers terminology across multiple languages. Our goal is to facilitate clear communication among players, officials, and enthusiasts from different linguistic backgrounds.

Background

Draughts (also known as checkers in some regions) is played worldwide with various rule sets and regional variations. This diversity has led to a rich but sometimes confusing array of terms used to describe game elements, moves, and concepts.

This project began in 2025 as a collaborative effort to compile, standardize, and translate the essential terminology used in international draughts competitions.
